The exhibition aims at showing the visitor a sample of the artistic heritage of this animistic artist, who had received his artistic education at the Mechelen Academy.
The title “Herman De Cuyper – Imaginator of the intimate” clearly shows the themes elaborated by this sculptor. Next to the children’s portraits, images of the family life completed with a few religiously inspired sculptures dominate his oeuvre. Some thirty volume works and about a dozen drawings can be seen as well as two paintings. The accompanying brochure briefly outlines the life and work of Herman De Cuyper and is available in the Municipal Museums of Mechelen and the Museum Herman De Cuyper. |
